Fab Apple Mac Tips & Tricks Many People Do Not Know!

Here are some cool tips and tricks that many people do not know they can do on their Mac, whether it's a MacBook, iMac or Mac Pro! I am using the latest version of Mac OS, namely the great Mac OS Sierra.

1. Spotlight Search

By pressing space and Command, you can access your spotlight search bar quickly. Did you know that you can not only search for files, folders, apps, music, photos etc but you can even ask questions like "What is the weather today?" or even sums like "1/5".

2. Siri for Mac

Mac OS Sierra introduced Siri for the first time to the Mac and you can do some pretty cool things with it. You can ask questions like:

"What was the last programme I opened?"

"Play me a song by the Killers"

"FaceTime call Bob Smith"

"Search the web for photos of Lisbon"

You can even ask Siri "What can you do", for more ideas!

3. Toggle Between Apps Quickly and Smoothly

You can hot command and tab to switch between the last two apps you have been using. This saves having to keep using your trackpad to click between the apps themselves. If you hold Command and press Tab whilst holding it down, you will access a dock in the middle of the screen showing the apps you have been using from the most recent on the left to the least recent on the right.

I love this feature!

4. Take a Screenshot

We love taking screenshots on our iPhones, well, you can do the same on your Mac! Very useful, for example, if you want to share a problem you have encountered on your screen with someone else. If you press Command, Shift and 3, you will hear a photo click and you now have a shot of your screen saved on the desktop!

If you press Command, Shift and 4, you mouse pointer will change to cross hairs, which will allow you to create a customised area you would like to take a screenshot of.

5. Use f.lux to Warm Up Your Screen Colours Before Bed

There is a great third party app called f.lux that modifies the temperature of your Mac screen, reducing the blue light, which is said to keep you awake at night. I wouldn't recommend using your laptop before bed so that you don't expose yourself to the blue light that can keep you awake and also so you have time to unwind. However, if you must use it, flux may help you get better sleep.

You may even use it just because it makes your screen look warmer!

The programme is available for free at:

So there you have it, 5 quick tips that I hope help you and contribute to giving you an even better experience of the Mac. Got any other tips? Feel free to share in the comments below.
